Black Opal Travel Group are so pleased to have former Scotland and British & Irish Lions legend Scott Hastings on board to host our Diamond Tour for the Lions Tour to South Africa 2021.
“The British & Lions holds a special place for me,” Scott said. “I have many precious memories from my time playing and supporting the Lions so when the opportunity came to host a Tour to South Africa in 2021, I couldn’t wait to be a part of it and use my experience to provide the best possible tour for our guests.”
The Lions
“I was first selected for the Lions squad in 1989. I was still playing as an amateur at the time and had to request time off from my full-time job at an ad agency,” Scott explained.
“I couldn’t believe what an amazing experience it was, we spent eight weeks in Australia and what made it even more significant was that my brother Gavin was also selected. I was selected again in 1993 for the Tour to New Zealand but my time was cruelly ended a week before the opening Test match when I shattered my jaw and cheekbone in a mistimed tackle on Josh Kronfeld in the Lions match against Otago.
“There is just something very special about the Lions - players that usually compete against each other come together to wear the famous red jersey and the atmosphere is unforgettable.
“With this sporting event only happening every four years it already holds a significant place in the rugby calendar but I believe that with the current circumstances, next year will hold even more importance for the supporters who are itching to get back out to the live games again. Sport has always brought people together and this will be even more compelling as the four nations stand side by side next year.”
About the Tour
“I have known the Black Opal team for a number of years so when they approached me about the Tour I was confident that they would put together a fantastic itinerary and I know they offer guests a true first class service and experience,” he added.
“As a former player I hope to bring my insight and knowledge of the sport to help lift our guests' experience but more so, I am a huge supporter myself and I look forward to the social side and camaraderie that comes with a sports tour such as this.
